PRINCIPLE OF OPERATION

The instrument was designed by the South African Sugar Milling Research Institute (SMRI). It is a dual wavelength on line photometer which measures the absorbance of light by the sugar solution at 880 and 470 nanometers. The measurement at 880nm is independent of colour whereas that at 470nm is a function of colour and turbidity.The true colour is calculated from the measured colour and the turbidity reading.

APPLICATIONS

Typical applications are on liquors after first and second clarification and after filters and before and after decolourising plant.
